After
William Tugwell`s death at the age of just 32, Betty is left with a young family
and in 1776 a marriage license exists showing her about to marry Thomas Stephens
Esq. at Bradford. But again she is unlucky and he dies before the wedding. Two
years later she finds happiness with her Doctor-Thomas Davis and they marry at
Holy Trinity in Bradford. A large Marriage settlement has survived at the Archives
at Taunton, Somerset. It shows Humphrey Tugwell providing her with a Dowry of
£4,000 and details other property she owns.. Two years later they have a daughter
who is christened Bridget Hayward Davis after her grandmother. Sadly in 1782 Betty
dies leaving her new husband with 5 children to look after. But his life is cut
short when he dies three years later. His Will shows his brother Robert and a
distant relation of the Hayward's-William Howe of Somerton as trustees. His daughter
Bridget receives his estate and is fortunate in living to the age of 77.
