THE RIFLE CLUB
Before the 1914- 18 war a flourishing Rifle Club was run in the village of which Miss Helen Foxcroft was secretary. The Club had its Range in an old disused Malt House which is now the garage next to the village shop.
The club was successful in winning a Silver Cup (believed valued at 50 guineas) this was very keenly contested for by a number of teams in the Bath League, including United Services, whom they beat. The cup was only retained for one year as the war prevented any further contest. The names of those featuring in the group appear below, together with a note to the effect that those holding Rifles were members of the winning team.
F. Gay, W.Windell, F. Grist, H. Ottery, J. Bailey, Go Grist, E. Perrin, E. S. Bailey, A. Windell, F. Angell, F. Andrews. The club closed down on the outbreak of war and never re- started.
