"No.l Hillside ". On 16th September 1837 Miss Harriot Prior of Lyme purchased No. 1 (then in the occupation of Mrs Cleaves of Charmouth) for £875 from Joseph Wilson, the deed was witnessed by the Misses Templer, cousins. Since then the property has been owned and occupied by the Prior and Templer families. The last to live there was Miss L.K. Prior, who sold it to Canon and Mrs. Whittington, and on the death of the Canon it was purchased by "the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1953 and was then Charmouth Rectory . Miss Harriot Templer was the last Templer to live there and was the last person to be buried in Charmouth Churchyard in 1903. All three houses have curved doors in the front sitting rooms and there are gardener's cottages belonging to each. |
